what is Period Poverty?

What is Period Poverty and Menstrual Inequity?

The term period poverty refers to the fact that monthly menstruation management is a struggle for many individuals globally. According to a definition created in 2015 by Jennifer Weiss-Wolf, Menstrual inequity refers to the need for public policy to address the safety, affordability, and availability of menstrual products for everyone who needs them.

At this moment, 800 million people on planet earth are menstruating but only 500 million have what they need to manage their menstrual hygiene. As humans, we cannot accept this.  It is an issue of dignity that must be addressed.

The term menstrual inequity refers When most of us manage their menstrual hygiene, , we can purchase what we need.  For some, the cost of supplies are a financial burden or out of reach due to homelessness. Currently, state and federal funds (EBT cards) cannot be used to purchase sanitary supplies.  As if that wasn't enough, 30 out of 50 states assess 15% luxury tax on the purchase of sanitary supplies. This is unacceptable.

As the name, Couples at Crossroads, implies, we are always at a choice point.  Each moment brings with it an opportunity for growth--an opportunity to experience life more deeply and more fully.   Most of time the choice is to recognize the value of a relationship and determine to put new energy into it.
