Mission Statement To eradicate period poverty in the Harrisburg area and raise awareness about
its impact on the dignity and health of our community. We will take action through community engagement and direct intervention with the unsheltered and those in need.
What began as a capstone project for a nursing degree has become a call to action in Harrisburg. The term period poverty refers to the fact that monthly menstruation management is a financial burden for some.
At this moment, 800 million people on planet earth are menstruating but only 500 million have what they need to manage their menstrual hygiene. As humans, we cannot accept this.
It is an issue of dignity that must be addressed.
When most of us manage this issue, we have what we need. For others, those supplies are costly and out of reach due to homelessness or cost. Currently, state and federal funds cannot be used to purchase sanitary supplies. As if that wasn't enough, 30 out of 50 states assess luxury tax on the purchase of sanitary supplies!!?? It simply defies reason.
